Course Syllabus

Étude No. 1

In this lesson, Professor Claret begins by giving us introductory studies and warm-ups as we prepare to work on this complex study. He then goes into great depth as he teaches us how to navigate the world of Duport. We learn about double stops, left and right hand coordination, sound production, shifting, and intonation work. An important lesson for any cellist, not just those working on this classic study.

Étude No. 20

In this lesson, Professor Claret spends a lot of time teaching us how to practice double stops both high and low on the cello. He also teaches us how to find notes in distant ranges on the cello. We also study how to use our arm and its various angles to put our hand in the right position to accommodate the different shapes needed for the many extensions and chords in this work.
