I,. Allegro
Vijay Gupta explores the opening movement through the lens of structure, rhetoric, and Baroque character, focusing on how articulation, harmony, and phrase direction shape the larger musical narrative. Students learn how to organize sequences, clarify bow strokes, and balance technical control with expressive intention while maintaining momentum through Bach’s intricate writing.
II. Andante
This lesson focuses on the vocal and improvisatory qualities of Bach’s lyrical second movement. Vijay demonstrates how pacing, harmonic awareness, and thoughtful bow distribution can create long, expressive lines while preserving rhythmic stability and clarity. Students are encouraged to think beyond individual notes and connect the solo line to the larger harmonic and orchestral texture.
III. Allegro assai
Vijay Gupta breaks down the rhythmic precision and light articulation required for the concerto’s energetic finale. He explains how to create swing and forward motion through controlled bow strokes, consistent articulation, and agile left-hand preparation. The lesson also covers effective slow-practice strategies, stamina building, phrase connection, and methods for integrating the entire concerto into a cohesive performance through score study, recording analysis, and efficient technical preparation.
