Taught by renowned violinist

Mann-Wen Lo

Despite its name, Seitz's fifth concerto provides ample material to challenge the ambitious violinist.
I. Allegro moderato

For her lesson on the first movement, Mann-Wen Lo discusses how arm weight enables us to achieve the right articulation at the first entrance. She goes on to discuss supplementary exercises for bouncing strokes, string crossings, and more. She moves thoughtfully through each section of the piece, providing tips on technique and musical interpretation.

II. Andante cantabile

The second movement builds on many of the same technical ideas as the first movement. Mann-Wen Lo continues her discussion on phrasing and bow speed, while stressing the importance of pacing.

III. Rondo: Allegretto

The light and playful third movement is a case study in crisp articulation. Mann-Wen Lo explores how to make the precarious double stops speak, and suggests some fingerings that make them more manageable.
